We offer Isha Hatha Yoga in an intimate setting to help you imbibe the subtleties of the science of yoga. The methodology is different, where the practices are taught through verbal instruction and live demonstration which are interspersed with videos to give you an intellectual understanding of what you’re doing and the why behind it.
The way a space that is used to teach yoga, is set up and organised becomes the fulcrum to drive a participants ability to grasp and integrate any practice. So the way we handle our spaces is done in such a way that attention to detail is paramount as this is the foundation that can create a conducive culture for spiritual growth within a human being. We create our spaces in such a way that all focus is on the teacher and the demonstrator. Yoga is a very subtle process. If there is any one quality that is essential to learn and cultivate while doing sadhana (practices) it is to be absolutely involved in the process. Our spaces are designed to help foster a deeper sense of involvement.
The atmosphere is maintained so the temperature is always within a comfortable range. 24 degrees is the most comfortable for a human being. Classical Yoga prescribes that yoga must always be done in the early hours of the day until 9am or the later part of the day starting 4:30pm as these are the coolest periods of the day where this temperature is set up in the environment.
We try to use natural materials as much as we can. Whether its the carpets, yoga mats or our own clothing, natural is always preferred. It can be cotton, wool or even silk. There is a whole science behind this as classical yoga always prescribes being in touch with the earth whenever possible, and this is one way to do that.
We have consecrated items in every class we conduct. Whether it's the Linga Bhairavi Gudi or the Dhyanalinga Yantra, you can be sure to find these in whichever class is conducted. This is to energize the space and make one more receptive to what they learn.
Aesthetics is the doorway to receptivity. A part of this is lighting. We make sure our spaces are always well lit and ventilated. You can be sure to find some plants always in the space we set up! We maintain conditions so that it is sufficiently sound insulated from the outside and no-one comes and goes casually. This is not to be strict, but to create a certain atmosphere that is charged for yoga. We handle the aromas of the space by lighting incense or sambrani before the session. Breathing fresh and alive air is a very important part of classical yoga as we are working with the breath, especially in hatha yoga. Lastly flowers always lighten up the space.
We avoid playing music, using mirrors or props, talking while demonstrating, or physically touching participants during the classes. Creating the right ambience becomes key in bringing home a deeper experience of what you practice.
“The sadhana you do can transform the space. Through the sadhana, something within you should shine. When you shine, you are enshrined. Investing in that little space will definitely pay in a big way in your life.”
